Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst hunger crises. After more
than 18 months of relentless conflict and siege, famine has now
been officially declared in parts of the country, including El Fasher
and Kadugli.

This means people are already dying of starvation.
The scale of the crisis is staggering. More than 17.7 million people are facing acute
food insecurity, with about 5 million on verge of famine. 3.4 million children are
malnourished and at extreme risk.

Families fleeing famine-affected areas are arriving malnourished, exhausted and
traumatised, after walking for days with little or no food or water. In the face of this
catastrophe, community-led Takaaya kitchens have become a vital lifeline, rooted
in Sudanese culture and Islamic principles of Zakat and Sadaqah, providing food,
dignity and hope to displaced families.
